What to Do When Your Garage Door Opener Won’t Work

by Sudarsan 1 May 2021

Is your home’s garage door giving you problems? Do you find yourself getting frustrated each time the garage doesn’t open? This is a problem that’s all too common.

Homeowners who can’t open the garage often have to leave their cars outside. This increases the risk of the car getting damaged. No homeowner wants to experience all this trouble.

What if your garage door opener won’t work? Do you know how to fix this issue? Read this guide to learn what you must do to fix it.

Check the Remote Control’s Batteries

This may sound funny, but the first thing you should do is check your remote control’s batteries. You’ll be surprised as many people forget to do this.

Think about when was the last time you replaced the control’s batteries. The batteries of a garage door remote last a couple of years. If the control’s signal to the door is weak or nonexistent, you’re likely to see this type of problem.

If you try to open the garage with the control panel on the wall of the garage and it opens, then it’s likely that the batteries were the cause of the problem. Test the remote several times to make sure the new batteries work.

Remote Signal Disruption

You replaced the batteries and still nothing? The problem may be a disruption in the signal between the remote and opener transmitter.

It could be that the remote is out of range. Try moving closer to the garage door. If you’re standing 20 feet away from the garage door and it doesn’t open, the cause may be a damaged antenna.

Check the antennae for debris buildup. If it’s not working, it will have to be replaced.

Remote Needs Reprogramming

A broken garage door opener may be due to a malfunctioning system. You can try to reprogram the remote by using the manual. You’ll need to find the opener’s learn button to do this.

Press this button until you see the garage door opener’s lights flash. You’ll also see the LED light on the opener blink. If you see a flash, it means reprogramming was successful.

Check the Track and Spring

A garage uses a track and torsion springs to open. There’s a roller that lifts the garage door. If it comes off one of the tracks, it will not work.

Torsion springs that are worn out or broken will not do any justice. This will not allow the opener to raise the door as it will be too heavy.

Door Control Wiring Malfunction

So you have tried everything and nothing seems to work? There may be a problem with the wiring.

This is a problem the pros have to handle. If you find that there is a need for reprogramming or fixing a track or spring, you have to call your local garage door repair company.

So Your Garage Door Opener Won’t Work

Your garage door opener won’t work and you keep growing frustrated? A broken garage door opener is a headache for any homeowner. In this guide, you found some of the garage door repair tips that you can try to fix the problem.

Owning vs Renting a Home: What You Should Know

by Sudarsan 1 May 2021

Finding somewhere to live is essential in life, we all need a roof over our heads. But when deciding where to live, should you rent or buy your own home?

Around 65% of US properties are lived in by the owners, while around 35% are occupied by tenants that pay rent. But with pros and cons for both buying and renting, how do you know which you should do?

In this article, we’ll look at owning vs renting a home so that you can make an informed decision about which path is right for you.

Renting Means You Won’t See a Fluctuation In Monthly Payment Amounts

When you own your own home, chances are you’ll have a mortgage to repay. Very often, the rate you pay will be dependant on a fluctuating interest rate. As interest rates rise, so too will your monthly payments.

One of the benefits of renting is that your monthly rent will stay the same month-on-month unless your rent increases.

Being a Renter Means You Don’t Build Up Equity

Renting a property means that all of the money you spend on your rent will never come back to you.

When you own your home, your mortgage payments will become equity in your property. If you come to sell your home, your share will have risen by the amount you’ve paid off.

Home Ownership Means You Need to Pay for Any Maintenance

When something goes wrong in your home and you rent it, your landlord is obliged to replace or repair it. When you own your home yourself, this is all down to you.

Maintenance can be quite costly, and some homes need a lot of work carried out.

Renting a Home Makes Moving Easier

When you rent, you’ll only ever need to give notice on your property before you can move out. When you own your home, you’ll need to go through the rigmarole of selling your property and buying a new one. This can be both time-consuming and expensive.

Owning a Home Gives You the Freedom to Modify It

If you own a home, you can modify it as you see fit as long as you don’t breach any building codes. One example of an improvement you may want to make is to add solar panels to your property. Check out blueravensolar.com/utah/ for more information.

When you rent, you’ll not usually have a say in any updates the property gets.

Your Property Could Rise In Value Over Time

If you own your home, any rise in the value of your property is beneficial to you. When you rent, it only benefits your landlord.

A rise in the value of your home could mean that you have a lot more equity stored in the property in comparison to when you bought it.

Owning vs Renting a Home

When comparing owning vs renting a home, you’ll need to weigh up where you are in life at the moment. If you’re in a position to put down permanent roots and can afford to maintain your property yourself, buying is the best option.

If you’re not ready for this, renting will give you greater freedom.

How to Create the Ultimate Home Theater

by Sudarsan 1 May 2021

Think you need to have the bank balance of Steven Spielberg or one of the Coppolas to have your own home theater? Think again!

It is a huge dream of many movie fans to watch their favorite flicks in their own home movie theater. Never again will you have to put up with inflated theater prices, yapping teenagers, or waiting in long lines.

And if you never got the chance to watch Jaws on the big screen? No problem! You can watch it on your own big screen!

Building your own home theater doesn’t have to cost a lot, but it requires planning, work, and a can-do attitude. If you are not sure where to begin, this is a step-by-step guide to turning your big-screen dreams into a big-time reality.

Step 1: Choose Your Location

Basements are an ideal location to set up a home theater. They are often the biggest room in the house and the easiest to soundproof.

Plus, if your basement does not have any windows, then that is one less job to do later.

But you do not want a room that is too big with high ceilings. The sound is less likely to carry throughout the entire room and will get lost. If you do not have an adequate basement or spare room, a well-insulated and decent-sized shed in your backyard might work well.

Step 2: Prepare and Redecorate

Next, you need to prepare your chosen location so that the sound and light quality are the best that they can be.

First, focus on soundproofing. Home theaters can be very loud. Your family members might not want to hear the adventures of Indiana Jones through the walls when they are trying to sleep.

Plus, you do not want the sounds of sirens and motorcycles to interrupt your journey to the Temple of Doom and snap you back into reality.

Insulate your walls and floors with carpet, hardwood, drywall, and/or sheetrock. Bare cement and stone will echo sound and destroy the cinema experience. You could also use draft excluders behind doors for extra sound protection.

Next, think about natural light. If you have any windows, invest in great blackout blinds. You might also want to paint your walls and ceiling black or charcoal grey. This will ensure your home theater is in total darkness before the magic of cinema commences.

Step 3: Select a Home Theater System

Choosing a home theater system is the most important step. Without it, you will be sitting in a comfy chair staring at a blank screen in total silence.

There are so many home theater systems to choose from. First, start with your screen. You may have a go-big-or-go-home attitude and want a 120-inch ultra-HD TV as your home theater screen.

But a far more cost-effective route would be to buy a home theater projector. That way, you can buy a white screen that maximizes the size of your projection wall. And great HD projectors are available for around $1,000.

Don’t forget about home theater speakers. Choose a surround sound system with many speakers fitted around your home theater for the full movie theater effect. Start with a speaker at the front, four on either side of the seating area, and add more if you need them.

Make sure you can connect your projector to your media player (Blu-ray is preferable) and/or laptop.

Home Theater System

Step 4: Install Home Theater Lighting

Bring your home theater to life with cinematic LED lighting. The right lighting can level up your home theater from makeshift to professional standard.

Small LED spotlights on the ceiling are a great idea to ensure the light will never be overbearing and kill the mood. They will create a simple starry sky effect that is common in many modern movie theaters.

You could also install sconces for that authentic movie theater aesthetic. If you have a small room, be mindful of installing too many lights. But if you have a large basement with many chairs, LED strips on the floor will help everyone find their seats.

Even in an at-home movie theater, people still need to go to the bathroom!

No matter what home theater lighting you choose, it must be on a dimmer switch. That is a non-negotiable. Nothing ruins the cinema experience more than flicking lights on and off.

Step 5: Plan Your Seating Arrangements

When planning your home theater seating, start with how many chairs you will need. It goes without saying to have enough home theater chairs for your immediate household members. You cannot make little Timmy sit on the floor.

If you plan on hosting big movie nights but do not have the space to install lots of permanent movie theater-style chairs, invest in fold-up chairs. They are not ideal for long-term use, but great for when you need to expand your seating capacity.

The best home theater chairs, if budget allows, are classic recliners with a cup holder. They will make your home theater look professional, plus soft furnishings improve sound quality. But sofas and loveseats will work well, too.

Step 6: Add Fun Extras and Concessions

A perk of building your own home theater is that you can decorate it how you like! Here are some home theater ideas for decoration inspiration:

  • Hang large classic movie posters
  • Invest in a popcorn machine with personalized popcorn boxes
  • Keep a mini-fridge stocked with soda
  • Build floor-to-ceiling shelves to display your movies
  • Stick a sign saying “screen one” to the door
  • Hang a red curtain in front of your screen
  • Buy blankets and fluffy throw pillows for your chairs

There are so many ways you can put your own stamp on your home theater. You worked hard to save and build your cinematic oasis so have fun and go crazy!

Setting Up a Home Theater in Six Easy Steps

Setting up a home theater is not complicated, nor is it reserved for the filthy rich. All you need to start is a room, a home entertainment system, and some chairs.

From there, you can add personal touches and create a cozy movie theater for all your friends and family to enjoy.
