The Meth Lab Cleanup Process, Explained

by Sudarsan Chakraborty 26 May 2021

Meth means death. In a 2017 survey, 1.6 million Americans reported using meth in the last year. Nearly one million of those people suffered from severe impairments, including health problems.

Meth manufacture is just as dangerous as meth use. A manufacturer can use any house to cook drugs in, and they can create a dangerous mix of chemicals. When you are considering a home purchase, you should know about meth lab cleanup.

What are the signs of a meth lab? What is so dangerous about cleaning a lab up? What are the first steps you should take, and what does a service provider do?

Answer these questions and you can diminish your risk of meth contamination. Here is your quick guide.

Signs of a Meth House

The first step for a meth house cleanup is to notice the signs of a meth house. You may find meth residue or equipment in a home, but that isn’t common.

Odors are perhaps the most common sign of a meth house. Meth production creates scents similar to rotten eggs or vinegar. If you smell these odors as you walk into a house, you should be mindful.

Unsanitary conditions are another sign. You may notice stains on the carpet or on the walls. You may notice scrapes in the floor from where equipment was dragged around.

The seller may be looking to sell the property right away. They may offer it for a very low price, or they may have a simple application.

The house itself may seem fine. But you may notice objects in front of the basement windows. They may have special ventilation systems that run during the wintertime.

Strange people may be lingering around the property. They may knock on the door and ask for people who aren’t there. They may leave items like needles that indicate drug use.

When in doubt, ask neighbors about what they have noticed. If they don’t seem to know anything, go to the police station. Crime rates in your local area can be telling, even if no crimes were reported at your house.

Dangers of Cleaning a Meth Lab

If your house had or has a meth lab, you may be inclined to clean it yourself. You should not.

One pound of meth creates six pounds of toxic materials. Chemicals used in meth production include ethanol and benzyl chloride. Inhaling these substances can damage the lungs and throat.

These same chemicals are flammable. Ethanol mixtures can burn below room temperature, so any electric spark can trigger a devastating fire.

Many drug manufacturers and dealers set up booby traps in their labs. They may fill a lightbulb with gasoline. When the lightbulb is turned on, it explodes.

The First Steps of a Meth Lab Cleanup

You can take a few steps to help with cleanup. Once you’ve found the lab, remain out of it. Do a survey of the area and see if you notice any chemicals or dangerous items.

Buy a test kit that can examine samples of toxic chemicals. Apply the kit to your common rooms like the kitchen and bedroom.

If your kit tests positive, call a cleanup crew right away. The longer you wait, the more toxic chemicals you will inhale. Tell them where the lab is and how chemicals have distributed from it.

Do some research into the best companies. Visit websites like Hcienv.com and examine what services they promote. But call someone as soon as possible and don’t worry too much about pricing.

Stay out of your house. Find somewhere else to stay for a few days. If you can’t leave, stay on your upper floors where there is less likelihood of encountering toxic chemicals.

Turn off the air conditioning system running through your house. This may sound counterintuitive, but your system can distribute toxins. Open doors and windows if you need to cool down.

You should also disable your electric system, at least where the lab was. Electricity can trigger a fire or booby trap.

Meth Lab Decontamination

A service provider begins the cleanup by developing a plan. They survey the levels of contamination through the building and determine what protective equipment they need.

They remove the most toxic objects first. This includes flooring and walling. Once they remove these objects, they ventilate the area using blowers.

They then apply vacuums to all surfaces. The vacuums contain special filters that remove particles. Once the particles are gone, they clean the surfaces with a detergent wash.

The provider cleans the air conditioning system and seals it off. The service personnel then conduct a second round of washing. They focus on lighting fixtures and porous surfaces that can attract chemicals.

They also clean the plumbing system, particularly sinks and drains. Many manufacturers pour toxic substances down them, which can contaminate the water supply.

Once they have cleaned everything, the personnel perform a test. They look to see if there are any lingering substances. If there are, they clean and ventilate those areas.

Someone from the government may come to examine the space. It may not meet requirements for occupation, which can result in the property being shut down.

Stay out of the cleanup crew’s way. The police may ask you questions about the lab, so call a lawyer and prepare for them. But you don’t have to do much while your house is being cleaned.

The Essentials of Meth Lab Cleanup

Meth lab cleanup is a complicated process. You can help by noticing the signs of a meth house. These include strange odors and stains.

Do not clean a lab by yourself. You can ingest toxic chemicals or set off booby traps.

You should buy a test kit and examine common areas that may have chemicals in them. But stay out of the lab.

Call a cleanup crew as soon as possible. They will clean common surfaces, plumbing, and air conditioning.

The Pandemic Can’t Stop Us: Low-Risk Social Activities for People During the Pandemic

by Sudarsan Chakraborty 12 May 2021

Moving Around During the Pandemic

The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic has made it very difficult for people to move around. The stay-at-home orders that have been implemented because of the ongoing crisis have emphasized that venturing outdoors is very dangerous for everyone. After all, the risks of the coronavirus can lead to major health problems that could lead to death. Therefore, the government has mandated that people remain inside their homes unless necessary.

Schools have been closed as students were made to take their classes online, and companies and organizations have been forced to let their employees work from home. Through these implementations, the government has guaranteed that people would no longer have to unnecessarily venture outside their homes to reduce the number of COVID-19 cases in the country.

However, a lot of people have started to notice that spending too much time at home is detrimental to their mental health and well-being. After all, it became impossible for people to socialize with their friends and family if it meant that they had to venture outside their homes to meet with others. Furthermore, social gatherings have been discouraged ever since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. This is because the virus spreads easily from person to person through social interactions.

To cope with the boredom and feeling of isolation due to the stay-at-home orders, a lot of people have resorted to online activities to socialize with people at a distance. This includes joining online contests, participating in free classes, and even signing up for virtual running events. The threat of the pandemic gradually decreased over time, especially with the release of vaccines for COVID-19. Nowadays, people have more freedom to venture outside their homes as long as they engage in low-risk social activities. Below are some examples of low-risk social activities that you and your family can do.

Going on Picnics

At first, people decided to hold picnics just within the comforts of their homes. Some people even held picnics in their yard or garden, while others choose to have picnics out on their patios or decks. Eventually, it became safer for people to have picnics in public parks and beaches. However, people are expected to be responsible for their health and the health of others. This means that people are expected to wear face masks at all times so that they will not end up spreading the virus or contracting the disease.

Engaging in Exercise Routines

Even though most gyms are still closed because of the pandemic, many people have decided to do simple exercise routines right within the comfort of their homes. At first, people chose to exercise inside their homes or out in their gardens or yards. Eventually, once it became safer to go outdoors, people have started walking, jogging, running, and biking around their neighborhood. However, people still need to wear face masks to protect themselves and others.

People who have decided not to go outside to exercise have enrolled themselves in online classes, such as yoga. Yoga exercises are simple and can be executed at home. Many people have been encouraged to engage in online exercise classes so that they can still promote better health even if they are not allowed to roam outside freely yet.

Dining in Restaurants

Once people learned how to implement effective social distancing measures, restaurants were allowed to reopen. People have been overjoyed because they can eat out with their friends and loved ones again. However, restaurants have been mandated to implement safety measures to keep people from spreading the virus or contracting the disease while enjoying a meal outside their homes with their friends or loved ones.

Nowadays, a lot of restaurants only allow a maximum of two persons per table. In addition, glass or plastic barriers have been set up to protect the customer and the staff. Patrons of restaurants are also only allowed to remove their masks while eating. This way, people will not end up risking themselves to the virus just because they want to spend a night outside their homes to eat good food with their friends and family.

Dealing with the Pandemic

Even though the pandemic has affected people’s lives significantly, there are still a lot of ways that people can protect themselves from the virus without compromising their social interactions. People can meet with each other online. They can engage in low-risk social activities, such as having picnics outdoors, exercising outdoors, or eating out with friends and family. However, people must always be responsible by wearing face masks and keeping a safe distance from others to make sure that they are not spreading the virus to others and to keep themselves safe from the virus, too.

How Do I Choose the Best Outdoor Ceiling Fan for My Patio?

by Sudarsan Chakraborty 11 May 2021

You might feel lucky to live somewhere with a beautiful and warm climate for most of the year. But isn’t it a shame when it gets so hot that you have to stay indoors with AC instead of enjoying the outdoors?

A ceiling fan is one of the best ways to cool areas of your property that air conditioning is no good for. But how do you choose the best outdoor ceiling fan for your needs?

Lucky for you, this guide will walk you through all the considerations so you can make an informed decision.

Decide Where Your Outdoor Ceiling Fan Is Going

Most people who are looking for the best outdoor ceiling fan will want one on their outdoor porch. Unless your porch already has a cover, you will need to invest in a sturdy shelter. This could be an extended rooftop or a pergola.

Exterior fans also work great in outdoor/indoor settings like sunrooms and garages. This is because materials used in outdoor ceiling fans take environmental factors into account.

Most types of outdoor ceiling fans are made from special ABS plastic or all-weather plastic. Their structures are steel and covered with a type of paint that helps stop rust. And they also have waterproof sealing on the motor and electrics.

This makes the outdoor ceiling fans 100% safe for outdoor use. So, if you spend a lot of time tinkering in an outdoor/indoor space like a garage with the door open, an outdoor ceiling fan may be a good choice.

Pick the Correct Size Outdoor Ceiling Fan

Next, choose the best outdoor ceiling fan with the correct size for your space. Use the following measurements as a rough guide:

  • 75 square foot = 30-inch ceiling fan
  • 100 square foot = 35-inch ceiling fan
  • 150 square foot = 40-inch ceiling fan
  • 200 square foot = 45-inch ceiling fan

Choosing the right size will make sure your outdoor ceiling fan is not obstructed by the space in any way causing a safety concern. It will also ensure the fan will be able to cool down the entire area you need it for. If you have an extra-large space, you may need to consider two matching fans instead of only one.

Select an Outdoor Ceiling Fan Style

The last thing you need to choose is an outdoor ceiling fan style. The best way to do this is to look at the style of your patio or porch where the ceiling fan is going.

Do you have a rustic farmhouse vibe? If so, a white wooden ceiling fan with a weathered paint exterior will complement the theme.

Or, do you have an industrial-chic or minimalist style? If so, a stainless steel exterior is not only practical but will look great too.

Choose the Best Outdoor Ceiling Fan for Your Needs

Taking the time to choose the best outdoor ceiling fan could change how and where you spend your time. Instead of rushing indoors to get cool, you could enjoy your patio and outdoor space year-round.

A Concise Guide to Living in Miami Beach

by Sudarsan Chakraborty 11 May 2021

Are you considering a move to Miami Beach, FL? You’re not alone. A slew of tech giants has already packed up and headed south for Miami’s shores.

In January, Pieter Thiel of PayPal joined the crowds flocking to this up-and-coming city when he bought an $18 million mansion in Miami Beach.

You don’t need to be a billionaire, or even tech-savvy, to make the move to Miami Beach, but it’s a good idea to find out what it’s like before you leave. Here’s what to expect.

Miami Beach Real Estate

Due to the influx of newcomers to Miami-Dade county, house prices in the area are at an all-time high. It’s possible to find a condo within your budget if you shop wisely and you’re prepared to live a little further away from the beach.

If you’re looking at Miami Beach house rentals, it’s a good idea to consider a condo in a newer complex instead, where competition keeps prices at reasonable levels.

There’s no shortage of luxury real estate in Miami Beach, so if you’re in that league, you’ll have no problem finding the perfect place, especially with interest rates as low as they are right now.

Daily Aspects of Living in Miami Beach

Miami Beach offers a hip seaside environment but that doesn’t mean it’s unsuitable for families. There are several highly-rated elementary schools in the area.

You might want to search the mainland for the best option for your middle and high school kids though, there aren’t very many options in Miami Beach itself.

People from all over the world flock to Miami Beach for the laid-back lifestyle, great weather, and seaside access. So, you’ll meet people of all cultures when living here.

According to experts, Floridians can be cautiously optimistic about future employment prospects. With so many tech companies making the move south, it’s easy to assume that Miami’s positive job outlook should continue its pre-pandemic upswing.

Currently, most jobs in Miami center on hospitality and tourism and these are sure to get back into full swing before too long.

Thanks to its popularity as a vacation destination, the entire Miami area also offers an endless array of things to keep you busy when you’re not engaged in your daily tasks.

Things to Do in Miami Beach

This is where the Miami Area really stands out. There are plenty of Miami Beach restaurants, nightclubs, parks, and other recreational areas to choose from. These are some of the most popular ones:

Best Beaches in Miami Beach

You’ll find no shortage of seaside attractions in this island-like destination. Some of the best ones are:

Miami Beach – South Beach

Famous as the playground of the well-heeled beachgoers, South Beach welcomes every sunseeker to its shores. Here golden sands greet you and the ocean’s warm all year round.

All along this strip, you’ll find trendy shops, eateries, and a thumping nightlife when the sun goes down.

South Pointe Park

This gorgeous green strip on the southern tip of South Beach offers some of the best views in town over Port Miami, Fisher Island, and the downtown skyline.

You can also picnic, enjoy walking trails, or barbecue to your heart’s content in this pristine recreation area. There’s also a mini water playground for cooling off on a warm day as well as a steakhouse.

Ocean Terrace Public Beach

This is part of Miami Beach’s North Beach area. It’s a popular kite-surfing spot and a wonderful place for sunset strolls, sunbathing, and swimming too.

Miami Beach’s coastline is a bustle any time of year, and things can get crowded. Fortunately, you’ll find easy beach parking at a few parkades located in all the most convenient spots.

Outdoor Fun in Miami Beach

Pride Park offers endless opportunities for outdoor recreation, bike rides, dog walking, picnics, and physical exertion. You can also catch a game at one of the city’s 17 tennis courts, or head to Miami for a host of outdoor adventures.

Nearby Biscayne Bay State Park and Everglades State Park provide nature lovers with the breath of fresh air they need, both underwater and on land.

Wining and Dining in Miami Beach

Miami’s diverse cultural spread means you’re bound to discover some new dishes when you live in this part of Florida. You can explore new tastes and regular favorites at a host of restaurants across town.

These are some of the best-known ones:

  • Farinelli for family-friendly meals
  • Versailles offering traditional Cuban cuisine
  • Ball & Chain for pub grub and fun times
  • LT Steak & Seafood
  • il Pastaiolo for Italian fare

Naturally, you can also take your pick from fast food, taco, burger, and pizza joints too.

Is Miami Beach a Good Choice for You?

Like any place on Earth, Miami Beach presents some challenges.

The wonderful weather comes with the threat of hurricanes from time to time, although most residents are well-prepared for these threats and accustomed to taking the necessary precautions.

Summers are blazingly hot in Miami Beach, with regular afternoon showers that last for about 20 minutes at a time. Again, you become accustomed to these vagaries of the Miami Beach weather.

If you’re squeamish, you might find Florida’s wildlife a little off-putting. Palmetto bugs and spiders are part of life in the Sunshine State.

The cost of living’s high throughout Florida, although low or non-existent taxes offset this considerably.

One last thing about Miami Beach is the traffic. The huge influx of new arrivals to the city means traffic’s at an all-time high too, making commuting a fine art.

Get Going!

Once you’ve mastered the traffic and parking issues you might encounter while living in Miami Beach, you’re all set for a lifetime of enjoyment.

This part of the world offers mild, welcoming weather, friendly people, and abundant opportunities.

How to Get a Deer Out of The Woods

by Sudarsan Chakraborty 12 April 2021

One of the many joys of hunting is the feeling of victory after shooting down your quarry. After a long day of walking, taking down your target feels like the best thing in the world, but there is one problem you are faced with: moving the bulky carcass back to your camp. That is no easy challenge to surmount, especially when you are on your own. Here are a few methods to get your game out of the woods.

Quartering and Packing Out

On some occasions, you might have followed the trail farther than you intended, ending up in a spot far away from where you started. In this event, your best option is to whip out your knife and quarter the deer on the spot.

This will help you salvage as much venison as you can. The first thing to do would be to field dress the deer, that is, removing the internal organs. This cools the animal and saves the meat by slowing the growth of bacteria. Field dressing also helps to lighten the load you have to carry.

You can also decide to keep the hooves, antlers and hide them for later use. This makes it much easier to carry. One of the disadvantages of this particular method is that the scent of blood may attract other animals to you. You have to keep an eye out to ensure that none of them catch you by surprise.

Pulling it Out

Getting down and dirty is probably the first thing that would come to your mind. The real secret to this method is to not be in a hurry.

First off, always carry a deer drag with you if you know you might have to get the deer out yourself. There are some great options. You can get the latest ideas at hunterexperts.com. You can also get the idea of other gadgets and equipment you’ll need for a successful deer hunting there.

Secondly, prepare yourself to spend a lot of time at this particular activity. Pull the deer a little distance, catch your breath for some time, and then continue. This method might sound exhausting and time wasting, but what would you rather have, no deer at all?

The truth is that most deer hunters are forced to use this method at some point in their hunting careers, but it is not sustainable in the long run. Hauling an entire deer over great distances can put significant strain on the back and neck. You can  find the best hunting gear at Texas Fowlers at an affordable price

When dragging the carcass out, you can decide to grab it by the antlers (with a sled) or tie a short rope around its legs or neck to pull it along. Alternatively, you can use a safety harness or a ski-rope handle to make holding and pulling the rope easier.

In a swampy area, turkey hunting boots are the best. You can find the best turkey hunting boots online.

Generally, getting a deer out of the woods is not an easy task, but at the end of the day, when you start to smell the meat cooking, you will realize that it was worth it.

When next you are hunting a deer, keep all this in mind and remember to go prepared. Deer is a tricky game to manage, but it is not impossible to get it out of a difficult place, even when you are alone.
