The Common Types of Refrigerators for Your House

by Sudarsan 16 May 2021

When you’re on the hunt for a new refrigerator, it can be exciting yet overwhelming. Modern technology has come a long way, and there are a variety of sleek and impressive fridges for your kitchen. Let this guide help you make the right decision.

We’re going to go over the most common types of refrigerators for your house, so you know what is tried and true.

Let’s get started.

1. Top Freezer

Of all the refrigerator options, the top freezer may be the most common. It’s popular because of the economical price point and simple design. This is the right choice for you if you’re looking for something with no frills that will fit your basic needs.

The downside is that you’ll need to bend down to get to the actual fridge portion. If you’re someone who isn’t very tall, it might be more difficult for you to reach the back of the freezer.

Despite these disadvantages, it’s a reliable option and can fit in most kitchen spaces or as an extra fridge in your garage.

2. Bottom Freezer

If you take a top freezer fridge and flip it, you’ll get a bottom freezer. It’s almost as popular and as affordable as the top-freezer, but without having to bend down to get to the part of the unit, you’ll be using more. The same benefits that the top-freezer has, the bottom-freezer has as well.

This fridge is larger in size than the top freezer, and there’s a nice drawer-style element to the freezer door.

3. Side-By-Side

Looking for refrigerator styles that make getting to both your freezer and fridge equally easy? Then consider the side-by-side. This is an increasingly popular choice for homeowners.

It’s split mostly down the middle, with more room in the fridge option since fresh food takes up more space. There’s also impressive in-door storage.

If your home has a narrow kitchen, you might benefit the most from this style since the clearance area for the doors is less than that of traditional refrigerators.

4. French Door

Maybe simple isn’t enough for you; maybe you’re looking for a lot of fancy features. That’s where the french door fridge comes in. It combines the flexibility of a side-by-side with the ease of a bottom-freezer unit.

No wonder this is becoming a more in-demand appliance! This is the right fridge for you if you have plenty of kitchen space and love to cook big meals. It’s pricier than the previous options, but you’ll love the multiple freezer drawers and energy-efficient double doors.

Regardless of what fridge you choose, maintenance is pretty simple. You can even find a replacement for your water filter with ease.

Most Common Types of Refrigerators

Choosing the refrigerator option may not seem like a big deal, but it can transform your cooking space. If you’re looking for a new fridge, you definitely have plenty of options to ruminate over. Why not make your life easier and start with the most common types of refrigerators?

Once you learn more about the kitchen appliances that are tried and true, you’ll be able to take one of the most used rooms in your home to the next level.

Understanding Trenchless Sewer Repair

by Sudarsan 13 May 2021

When your home’s sewer line becomes damaged, the repairs can be costly in terms of both money and time. You must spend money on both repairing the sewer line itself and the excavations done in your yard to repair the pipes. Such digging can also damage your lawn’s landscape, costing you even more money to get back your lawn’s picturesque view. Fortunately, there now exist methods of trenchless sewer repair involving advanced epoxy materials that get the job done without the need for tedious excavations in your yard. You may also seek the help of experts like The Plumber Guys Inc.

It is of no question that damages in your home’s sewer line can cause quite the hassle. Your appliances’ water lines may overflow, and your sinks can be clogged. Therefore, sewer repairs must be addressed immediately for your water systems to be restored back to their usual form.

The first sewer repair technique that does not involve extensive excavation is known as pipe-pulling. Here, a new pipe is placed on the old broken pipe’s location. Meanwhile, the old one is broken up. This is done by digging two holes where the new pipe is pulled through a hydraulic system that pulls it underground. A large cone is attached to one end of the new pipe which breaks down the old pipe while occupying its space. The cone head is then removed through another hole, and the new pipe can now be installed on your sewer system.

In the pipe-pulling method, your yard might need some restoration on the holes dug for the procedure. However, it will not require landscaping anymore since you only need to dig holes instead of a trench which will require extensive fixing on your lawn. This means that a homeowner can save as much as 50% on total costs if they opt for this method of sewer repair instead of the traditional one.

While the first method needs two dug holes to complete, the Cured-in-Place Pipe (CIPP) only needs one. This method makes use of a strong epoxy to line the damaged pipe’s interior with the new one. The liner is a flexible tube with a resin coating that is pulled into the damaged pipe’s interior. An air-filled filler holds the new lining in place until such time that the epoxy sets in about three hours. After the new pipe is placed, a camera attached to a robot is made to go through inside the pipe to examine the interior to check for the new pipe’s quality of placement. Once deemed satisfactory, the damage has now been repaired through the CIPP method which takes only a single hole in your lawn to perform. The repaired pipe can last at least 50 years since it has no seams and joints that roots usually intrude through and cause damage to the pipe.

The CIPP method of sewer repair will only require one hole in the ground to perform. This means that you will only need minimal costs to fix your lawn’s landscape after sewer repairs. Thus, you can save plenty of cash on landscaping in contrast to the traditional method of sewer repair.

The next time your home’s sewer system becomes damaged, consider the two trenchless repair methods listed above. The two alternatives to traditional sewer repair can both solve the problem and save your lawn’s expensive landscape.

7 Common Signs You Have Termites in Your House

by Sudarsan 11 May 2021

Termites: the army that marches in silence! Often, once you’ve discovered them: It may too late. So it’s important to know what you’re looking for and how to protect your property before you are quite literally eaten out of house and home!

There are many factors to how an infestation manifests itself, so it’s important to stay on top of any subtle clues that you may not be alone.

So, here are the 7 most common signs you have termites.

Mud Tubes

Termites require a humid environment to survive, so they often create mud-filled tunnels to travel to their food source. This can often appear as pencil-sized mud tubes on the surface of your house’s walls.

These tubes typically appear around the foundation level of your property, but well-established infestations can go all the way up the walls!

Swarms

Winged termites, or swarmers, look a lot like flying ants, so be careful not to make that assumption.

These types of termites usually appear when a new termite colony is being established. The could potentially be a sign that an infestation has begun and may warrant more investigation.

A pest control company like Reynolds Pest Control can offer worried homeowners an investigation.

Discarded Wings

In connection with the previous termite problem: once a colony has been made, swarmers shed their wings in celebration. This can result in the appearance of tiny wings all over your house.

Keep an eye out for them, it could mean that termites have “signed the lease”!

Wood Behaving Strangely

Keep a good eye on the condition of the wood and surfaces of your property. A variety of unusual behavior, like bubbling paint or tight-fitting doors or windows, could seem like dampness issues, but it could also be signs of termites.

Also, listen to your wood. If your wood sounds hollow or papery, this could be a sign that termites have formed a gallery on the inside. Give the wood in your home a little knock here and there to inspect.

Frass

Frass is another word for termite droppings. As termites consume wood, they eventually leave behind frass. This substance looks a lot like mounds of sawdust around your house.

If you live in an area where termites can be an issue, perform regular inspections for frass, especially in parts of the house that are uninhabited like attics.

Clicking Sounds in the Wall

A clicking sound coming from within the walls could be down to the soldier termites banging their head on the wood or shaking their body. This is to communicate danger to other termites.

Another thing to keep in mind is that termites have a crunchy diet. So, you may hear them chomping inside the walls. Put your ear to the wall and try to follow the sounds.

Outdoor Issues

While the building itself might not be displaying termite signs, that does not necessarily put your property in the clear. An inspection of your outdoor environment may save you from an internal infestation.

A close look at whether the trees in your backyard have small holes, hollow shapes or some of the above-mentioned signs of termites will help catch them before it’s too late.

Signs You Have Termites: A Reminder

Just because you can’t see them, doesn’t mean that they are not there.

So if you live in an area where termites are a reality, never get overconfident! The wisest course would be to get a professional inspection at least once a year, even if there are no signs you have termites!

Often, the smallest sign may point to a devastating infestation, so avoid resorting to inspections only when the symptoms occur. When it comes to this silent army, prevention is always better than the cure!

What to Do When Your Garage Door Opener Won’t Work

by Sudarsan 1 May 2021

Is your home’s garage door giving you problems? Do you find yourself getting frustrated each time the garage doesn’t open? This is a problem that’s all too common.

Homeowners who can’t open the garage often have to leave their cars outside. This increases the risk of the car getting damaged. No homeowner wants to experience all this trouble.

What if your garage door opener won’t work? Do you know how to fix this issue? Read this guide to learn what you must do to fix it.

Check the Remote Control’s Batteries

This may sound funny, but the first thing you should do is check your remote control’s batteries. You’ll be surprised as many people forget to do this.

Think about when was the last time you replaced the control’s batteries. The batteries of a garage door remote last a couple of years. If the control’s signal to the door is weak or nonexistent, you’re likely to see this type of problem.

If you try to open the garage with the control panel on the wall of the garage and it opens, then it’s likely that the batteries were the cause of the problem. Test the remote several times to make sure the new batteries work.

Remote Signal Disruption

You replaced the batteries and still nothing? The problem may be a disruption in the signal between the remote and opener transmitter.

It could be that the remote is out of range. Try moving closer to the garage door. If you’re standing 20 feet away from the garage door and it doesn’t open, the cause may be a damaged antenna.

Check the antennae for debris buildup. If it’s not working, it will have to be replaced.

Remote Needs Reprogramming

A broken garage door opener may be due to a malfunctioning system. You can try to reprogram the remote by using the manual. You’ll need to find the opener’s learn button to do this.

Press this button until you see the garage door opener’s lights flash. You’ll also see the LED light on the opener blink. If you see a flash, it means reprogramming was successful.

Check the Track and Spring

A garage uses a track and torsion springs to open. There’s a roller that lifts the garage door. If it comes off one of the tracks, it will not work.

Torsion springs that are worn out or broken will not do any justice. This will not allow the opener to raise the door as it will be too heavy.

Door Control Wiring Malfunction

So you have tried everything and nothing seems to work? There may be a problem with the wiring.

This is a problem the pros have to handle. If you find that there is a need for reprogramming or fixing a track or spring, you have to call your local garage door repair company.

So Your Garage Door Opener Won’t Work

Your garage door opener won’t work and you keep growing frustrated? A broken garage door opener is a headache for any homeowner. In this guide, you found some of the garage door repair tips that you can try to fix the problem.

How to Create the Ultimate Home Theater

by Sudarsan 1 May 2021

Think you need to have the bank balance of Steven Spielberg or one of the Coppolas to have your own home theater? Think again!

It is a huge dream of many movie fans to watch their favorite flicks in their own home movie theater. Never again will you have to put up with inflated theater prices, yapping teenagers, or waiting in long lines.

And if you never got the chance to watch Jaws on the big screen? No problem! You can watch it on your own big screen!

Building your own home theater doesn’t have to cost a lot, but it requires planning, work, and a can-do attitude. If you are not sure where to begin, this is a step-by-step guide to turning your big-screen dreams into a big-time reality.

Step 1: Choose Your Location

Basements are an ideal location to set up a home theater. They are often the biggest room in the house and the easiest to soundproof.

Plus, if your basement does not have any windows, then that is one less job to do later.

But you do not want a room that is too big with high ceilings. The sound is less likely to carry throughout the entire room and will get lost. If you do not have an adequate basement or spare room, a well-insulated and decent-sized shed in your backyard might work well.

Step 2: Prepare and Redecorate

Next, you need to prepare your chosen location so that the sound and light quality are the best that they can be.

First, focus on soundproofing. Home theaters can be very loud. Your family members might not want to hear the adventures of Indiana Jones through the walls when they are trying to sleep.

Plus, you do not want the sounds of sirens and motorcycles to interrupt your journey to the Temple of Doom and snap you back into reality.

Insulate your walls and floors with carpet, hardwood, drywall, and/or sheetrock. Bare cement and stone will echo sound and destroy the cinema experience. You could also use draft excluders behind doors for extra sound protection.

Next, think about natural light. If you have any windows, invest in great blackout blinds. You might also want to paint your walls and ceiling black or charcoal grey. This will ensure your home theater is in total darkness before the magic of cinema commences.

Step 3: Select a Home Theater System

Choosing a home theater system is the most important step. Without it, you will be sitting in a comfy chair staring at a blank screen in total silence.

There are so many home theater systems to choose from. First, start with your screen. You may have a go-big-or-go-home attitude and want a 120-inch ultra-HD TV as your home theater screen.

But a far more cost-effective route would be to buy a home theater projector. That way, you can buy a white screen that maximizes the size of your projection wall. And great HD projectors are available for around $1,000.

Don’t forget about home theater speakers. Choose a surround sound system with many speakers fitted around your home theater for the full movie theater effect. Start with a speaker at the front, four on either side of the seating area, and add more if you need them.

Make sure you can connect your projector to your media player (Blu-ray is preferable) and/or laptop.

Home Theater System

Step 4: Install Home Theater Lighting

Bring your home theater to life with cinematic LED lighting. The right lighting can level up your home theater from makeshift to professional standard.

Small LED spotlights on the ceiling are a great idea to ensure the light will never be overbearing and kill the mood. They will create a simple starry sky effect that is common in many modern movie theaters.

You could also install sconces for that authentic movie theater aesthetic. If you have a small room, be mindful of installing too many lights. But if you have a large basement with many chairs, LED strips on the floor will help everyone find their seats.

Even in an at-home movie theater, people still need to go to the bathroom!

No matter what home theater lighting you choose, it must be on a dimmer switch. That is a non-negotiable. Nothing ruins the cinema experience more than flicking lights on and off.

Step 5: Plan Your Seating Arrangements

When planning your home theater seating, start with how many chairs you will need. It goes without saying to have enough home theater chairs for your immediate household members. You cannot make little Timmy sit on the floor.

If you plan on hosting big movie nights but do not have the space to install lots of permanent movie theater-style chairs, invest in fold-up chairs. They are not ideal for long-term use, but great for when you need to expand your seating capacity.

The best home theater chairs, if budget allows, are classic recliners with a cup holder. They will make your home theater look professional, plus soft furnishings improve sound quality. But sofas and loveseats will work well, too.

Step 6: Add Fun Extras and Concessions

A perk of building your own home theater is that you can decorate it how you like! Here are some home theater ideas for decoration inspiration:

  • Hang large classic movie posters
  • Invest in a popcorn machine with personalized popcorn boxes
  • Keep a mini-fridge stocked with soda
  • Build floor-to-ceiling shelves to display your movies
  • Stick a sign saying “screen one” to the door
  • Hang a red curtain in front of your screen
  • Buy blankets and fluffy throw pillows for your chairs

There are so many ways you can put your own stamp on your home theater. You worked hard to save and build your cinematic oasis so have fun and go crazy!

Setting Up a Home Theater in Six Easy Steps

Setting up a home theater is not complicated, nor is it reserved for the filthy rich. All you need to start is a room, a home entertainment system, and some chairs.

From there, you can add personal touches and create a cozy movie theater for all your friends and family to enjoy.

A Homeowner’s Complete Guide to Window Replacement: Trends, Costs, Benefits, and More

by Sudarsan 25 April 2021

Have you recently checked the condition of your windows?

Window replacement is one of the best choices to enhance your home’s look and efficiency. Although it can be time-consuming and expensive, you may want to consider getting one.

In this guide, you’ll learn about the costs, benefits, and more about window replacement. Read on if you want to consider replacement windows for better comfort and safety.

Signs That It’s Time for a Window Replacement

It’s typically easy to spot if you need to start finding a window replacement or repair company. However, there may be some hidden signs that tell you that you need immediate replacement.

One is the abnormally high energy bill leading to poor energy efficiency. This is due to the drafts coming from damaged windows. The air entering your home forces your HVAC system to work harder to heat or cool the air.

Try opening and closing your windows a few times. Window foundations may twist, which prevents smooth moving of your windows. In some cases, the hinges and latches get rusted enough that you can’t open the window at all.

Another sign to replace your windows is the peeling and cracking of the paint around them. This usually means that the wood underneath is starting to rot, crack, or falling apart.

Benefits of Home Window Replacement

Replacement windows are your solution to better light and modern aesthetics. Windows can do more than simply bring more sunlight and airflow. Present windows now give you many benefits with the option to customize to suit your needs.

Here are a few of the benefits of investing in a new window:

Increase of Home Value

One of the biggest benefits is that you get a higher home value if you plan to sell your home. Many home buyers might not like the appearance of old, broken windows in their new possible home.

If you plan to sell your home soon, consider investing in brand new vinyl windows. Homeowners can get back about 73% of the overall project cost from the resale.

Enhanced Home Safety and Security

Windows that don’t open or close well are both an annoyance and a safety hazard. For example, it’ll be difficult to open the window when you’re trying to escape when there’s a fire.

Getting new windows can benefit the safety of you and your family. Many windows now have improved functionality and safety features. You may find features like security sensors and up-to-date secured locks.

Easier Maintenance

Many of today’s window designs don’t need much maintenance. There are many that have convenient features like between-the-glass blinds and tilting sashes. These features reduce the need to clean dust and makes it easier to reach hard-to-clean areas.

Reduce Noises

How does replacing your window reduce the noises coming from outdoors? New windows now feature triple-pane glass with insulation frames. They have the components to combat noise pollution, allowing a more comfortable environment.

Improve Home Comfort

With new windows, you no longer have to suffer from the hot spots and cold drafts. Your well-sealed windows prevent air leaks and allow more climate-controlled air.

Some windows with argon staying between the glass help prevent heat transfer. They also reduce the number of ultraviolet rays entering your home.

Window Replacement Cost

What you choose for your window replacement affects the overall cost. This includes the manufacturer, color, type of glass, size, and so on.

The average cost to replace windows stays between $150 to $700 for each window. You get this price range for replacement windows that go into existing frames. With labor costs, you’ll have to pay an extra $150 to $250 per window.

On average, expect an additional $38 for every hour with labor costs. The price also differs in the type, material, size, and frame of the windows.

Factors to Consider for the Best Replacement Windows

Get the best replacement windows by knowing what to look for before purchasing. Besides the cost, you need to inspect every component of your new windows. This ensures that the window matches your needs, aesthetics, and budget.

Window Style

What’s the main focus of your room? Is it to have a more expansive view of the outdoors or for better ventilation? With the purpose of the window in mind, you can pick the best style that matches the room.

If you need better ventilation, awning windows are the best choice. Other great choices for extra ventilation are casement and hopper windows.

Get Bay & Bow windows if you want to create an extra interior space. Garden windows are the perfect choice for your kitchen if you grow herbs and spices. If you want minimalism, choose sliding, picture, single-hung, or specialty shape windows.

Window Type

Vinyl windows are the most durable and energy-efficient compared to other options. They are easy to clean and hardly corrodes or rots. Vinyl is more lightweight, which makes them easier to install.

You can also get fiberglass windows for their natural wood aesthetic and durability. They’re resistant to moisture, fading, peeling, and flaking.

Another great choice is the composite windows. They are also resistant to water, rotting, and warping. It is a mix of vinyl and fiberglass, which makes them stronger but pricy.

Glass Type and Size

The types of glass you pick can help boost energy efficiency and lower your energy bills. Go for tinted glass if you want to reduce the UV rays entering your home. If you want to increase safety, the tempered glass may be to your liking.

Window Trends of 2021

2021 is here, and many homeowners are now tackling DIY projects for better windows. Many are more encouraged to install windows that improve ventilation, comfort, and functionality.

Large windows are one of the biggest window trends of 2021. It’s aesthetically pleasing to look through your big glass windows to look at the view.

The sliding mechanism for windows has also grown more popular. The finger-based movement to open and close now makes it easier to move your windows.

Now that you know more about window replacement, do you want to give it a go? Increase both functionality and aesthetics as you find more durable windows.

Cook Over a Fire Pit Like a Pro With Our 5 Flavor Enhancing Tips

by Sudarsan 24 April 2021

For some reason, a meal tastes a lot better when you have to work a little for it. There are few things better than winding down around a fire and tasting the food that you’ve prepared and cooked outdoors.

It’s tricky to get it right, though. Sure, the food you eat when you’re camping doesn’t have to be gourmet to hit the spot, but what about cooking over a fire pit at your own home?

We’re going to take a look at some key tips on how to cook over a fire pit. Hopefully, the ideas below will allow you to start cooking meals outside and be impressed with how they taste.

1. Account for Wind and Ash

The first thing we have to mention is that a gust of wind can sweep up and taint your entire meal.

Any time you’re cooking over a fire, be sure to come prepared with something to cover the pan you’re cooking with. Bugs, dust, and other debris can get into your food as well, so it’s best to find a way to cover things up.

2. Choose Wood Carefully

If you’re at your own home, you have some say over the kind of wood you use in the fire. You want something that will burn slowly with lasting heat.

Some wood burns up quickly and doesn’t give you time to cook food to completion. Ash, elm, oak, and hickory contain the best wood to use when cooking over a fire pit.

Hickory also has a great smell that might add something to the flavor.

3. Invest in a Grill

There are a lot of great camping or fire-cooking grills that won’t cost you too much. It’s possible to cook food in pots directly over the fire, but that leaves you open to a lot of hazards.

Logs can snap, things shift, and your food might flop out into the flames. Options like a cowboy grill can streamline your process and help you keep everything manageable.

4. Wait a While, Conserve Wood

A rookie mistake is to dump all of your wood on at the same time and think that the flames are ready because they’re high.

Campfires need a little time to heat up, even if they’re flaming. Wait until there are plenty of embers producing heat. That’s where the main heat source comes from.

Additionally, create a small space where the hot embers can work their magic. Contribute wood to that space only so that you can conserve it throughout the night.

5. Use Your Intuition

When it comes to cooking over a fire pit, you can’t be too picky with times and exact temperatures. It’s good to have a meat thermometer to ensure that you’re not going to get sick, but you can’t do too much beyond that.

You have to eyeball things a little bit to know when they’re done. Over time, you’ll develop the skill and be making tasty dishes consistently.

Cooking over a fire pit can be a little intimidating at first, but it’s well worth the effort. We’re here to help you learn more if you’re interested in expanding your skills a little bit.

What is Biophilic Design & Why It Trending Right Now

by Sudarsan 24 April 2021

The idea of bringing the outside to our interior spaces has endured in home decor for more than a few seasons now. As an extension of this concept, the biophilic design strives to create spaces that connect its occupants with the natural world. Explore the aspects of biophilic design and the reasons for the growing popularity of this aesthetic and functional lens.

A Holistic Natural Integration

Rather than simply introducing one natural element into interior design Manhattan Beach, a truly biophilic approach strives to integrate nature with the entirety of a home or structure. Those who use the space should gain benefit from the natural elements as these aspects of the property influence how they live, work and play.

Elements of Biophilic Design

When considering a biophilic home for your Malibu interior design, identify the elements of nature that best support your lifestyle and habits. Some of the most popular ways to incorporate this concept into residential spaces include:

  • An indoor fireplace to create a sense of vibrant color, comforting warmth and dynamic movement
  • Natural landscapes such as plants and gardens within the structure, by way of potted plants, green walls or green roofs
  • The ability to observe weather and maximize light exposure through expansive windows to the world
  • Connection with animal life with design elements such as aquariums and bird feeders
  • Water features such as ponds and fountains
  • Exceptional air quality with the ability to sense temperature, flow and humidity
  • Light as both a functional and design element, as occupants use light to orient themselves to time and place as it creates appealing patterns and shadows with placement of windows and skylights
  • Natural patterns such as honeycombs and fractals
  • Use of organic materials that show change over time, such as metal that develops a distinctive patina with air exposure
  • Palette containing muted tones of brown, green and blue, with few bright colors
  • Images of nature

Benefits of Biophilic Design

The Practice of Biophilic Design is the foundational study of the principles and practices of this natural architectural framework. Authors Stephen R. Kellert & Elizabeth F. Calabrese identified diverse benefits of the design features described above. Spaces with water elements were associated with increased life satisfaction, performance, and wellness along with lower levels of stress.

The authors also report that indoor greenery reduces stress while enhancing productivity and health. Earth tones had a calming effect in their research, while vibrant reds and yellows can distract the mind.

A study published in the International Journal of Architectural Research found that features such as nature signs and sounds can reduce painkiller use after surgery and improve mental health after exposure to severe stress.

Many environmentalists also tout the benefits of biophilic design. These elements can increase the biodiversity of your neighborhood, improve stormwater management and reduce your property’s carbon emissions. Some biophilic upgrades reduce energy use and keep the home at a more stable temperature.

Markatos Design is your Santa Barbara interior designer if you’re ready to bring biophilic renovations to your space. Schedule a consultation with our boutique studio specializing in residential projects to enjoy a breath of fresh air in your home.

How to make your bedroom smell fresh

by Sudarsan 20 April 2021

Did you know that most people spend around ten hours of their day in the bedroom? Now that you know you spend more than a third of your day in the bedroom, would it not be important to keep it fresh and smelling nice? Besides making you feel good, having your bedroom smell fresh can improve your blood pressure and heart rate, help your stomach digest food more effectively, strengthen your immune system, and decrease the chance of you being obese. And the best part of keeping your bedroom fresh is that it won’t even cost you much money, time, or energy. Here are some things you can do to help keep your bedroom fresh.

Identify foul smells

If you realize that your bedroom has an unpleasant smell, do not try to mask it by applying an air freshener or lighting a scented candle. These are short-term solutions that will not last for long. They are also harmful to your health since commercial air fresheners may release toxic volatile organic compounds into the air of your bedroom. A foul smell will overcome any attempt to cover it at the end of the day.

You can start by looking for mold and mildew in dark and damp places in your bedroom. Completely inspect other parts of your bedroom for water leaks, condensation, mildew, mold, or moisture. Look for mold and mildew in laundry baskets, potted plants, air conditioning vent, windowsills, and on the carpet. If you find any mold or mildew it is important to clean it off right away. If any pipes are leaking repair them immediately because molds and mildew thrive on leaking pipes.

Dust your bedroom

How to Create a Dust-Free Bedroom

The next action to take is dusting your bedroom. Dust contains both outdoor and indoor particles which can be insect droppings, dead skin, pollen, and other random things. These different components of dust may cause an allergic reaction to you. Dusting your room will keep your bedroom dust-free and help you to breathe easier. It will also prevent the particles from making your room have a musty smell. You should dust every part of your bedroom including the blinds, light fixtures, the top of windows and doors, and baseboards.

Clean your sheets and laundry

Make sure that you change your bed sheets at least once a week because you spend a lot of time on them. Also, make sure that you change your pillowcases regularly to keep your pillow. Besides your featherbed having good mattress reviews, also make sure that you clean, lift and flip your mattress to shake off dust and particles. Ensure that the laundry hamper is emptied on a regular basis. You should wash excessively sweaty clothes right away instead of putting them in a laundry basket. Putting them in the laundry basket will lead to them causing unpleasant smells because the gasses being released by bacteria break down the sweat and oil left behind on sweaty clothes.

Turn on the dehumidifier

7 Best Ways to Achieve the Ideal Home Humidity - Climate Experts

If you do not have a dehumidifier, you should consider investing in one. This is because moisture can become a huge issue for you if you want your bedroom to have a great smell. Damp surfaces and most air are ripe areas for mildew and mold to grow in. You might have a difficult time keeping your house from getting too humid depending on the climate of your region. Humid air can trap foul smells and pollutants. The humidifier will help pull moisture out of the air and make it less accommodating for mold and mildew and keep your bedroom less stuffy.

Use an air purifier

An indoor air purifier will help to trap and destroy air pollutants around your bedroom. This will effectively remove some of the sources of bad odors.

Make sure that your dogs and cats are bathed regularly to prevent them from having a foul smell due to the gathering of particles on their furs. Bathing them will also prevent them from catching some infections that may make them smell bad.

Final thoughts

Having your bedroom smell nice and fresh will make your life much easier. As you have seen it does not take much to achieve that. All you need is just some basic hygiene habits.
